In a demonstration of Michelangelo's unique standing, he was the first Western artist whose biography was published while he was alive. Two biographies were published of him during his lifetime; One of them, by Giorgio Vasari, proposed that he was the pinnacle of all artistic achievement since the beginning of the Renaissance, a viewpoint that continued to have currency in art history for centuries.

1918-         Rolihlahla Mandela was born on July 18th in Transkei, South Africa. His father was Gadla Henry Mphakanyiswa and his mother Noqaphi Nosekeni. .
1925-         Attends primary school where a teacher gives him the English name Nelson. He was the first person in his family to go to school.
1930-         Mandela’s father dies.
1934-         He began his secondary education at the clarkebury Boarding institute.
1937-         Moved to Healdtown College at Fort Beaufort. 
1939-         After passing school he admit on university of fort hare.
1940-         At the end of his 1st year he was temporarily suspended for involved in a student representative council.
1942-         Passing his BA exam form university of South Africa (UNISA) & informally begins to attend African National Congress (ANC) meetings.
1944-         Co- founds the ANC youth league (ANCYL). On 5th October- Married Evelyn Ntoko Mase.         
1947-         Mandela was elected to the executive committee of the Transvaal ANC.
1948-         Elected national secretary of the ANCYL.
1951-         Elected president of the ANCYL.
1952-         Defiance campaign begins against apartheid with Indian and communist groups. 30th July Mandela was arrested and charged for violating   the suppression of communism Act. Elected Transvaal ANC president convicted withWalter sisulu, J.s Moroka and 17 others under the suppression of communism Act. Sentenced to nine months imprisonment with hard labour. Open his law firm with Oliver Tambo.
1953-         Devises the M-plan for the ANC’s future underground operation.
1956-         5th December Mandela was arrested joins 155 others on trial for treason. All are acquitted by 29 march 1961.
1958-         Divorces Evelyn Mase. Married Nomzamo Winnie Madikizela.
1960-         Both the ANC and PAC responded in 1961 by setting up military wings. On march 30 a state of emergency imposed. On April 8 the ANC is banned.
1961-         After banned the ANC Mandela goes to underground. Mandela co-founded
                MK.
1962-         On January 11 mandela leaves south Africa for military training and international support for the ANC. July 23 he return home. on 5th august he was arrested near howick in kwazultl-natal. On 7th November sentenced him to five years in prison for incitement and leaving the country without a passport.
1963-         On 27th may send him to Robben Island as a prisoner. On 12th June returned to Pretoria local prison. On October 9 Appears in court for the first time in what becomes known as the Rivonia trial, with Walter Sisulu, Govan Mbeki, Denis Goldberg,Ahmed kathrada, Raymond mhlaba, lionel Bernstein, James kdntor, Andrew mlangeni and Elias motsoaledi.
1964-         On June 11 all of them except James Kdntor and Lionel Bernstein are convicted and sentenced to life. On July 13 they were transferred from Pretoria to the prison Robben Island. Mandela has spent his 18 years of his life in this place. The measurement of his cell  is 8’-7’ with a straw mat on which to sleep & a pot used to latrine.
1969-         July 13 his son Thembekile is killed in a car accident. Mandela was forbidden to attend his son’s funeral.
1982-         In march 31 Mandela was transferred to polls moor prison with Sisulu, Raymond, Andrew and Ahmed kathrada. 
1985-         November 3rd he admitted to the volus hospital for prostate surgery and November 23rd returned to pollsmoor prison.
1988-         On may south African government agreed to the release of political prisoners. On December 7 he moved to victor verster prison near where he was spend 14 months in cottage.
1990-         On 2nd  February the ANC was unbanned and February 11 Mandela was released. On   march he was elected ANC’s deputy president.
1993-         Mandela and De Klerk were jointly awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in
                Norway.
1994-         27th April vote for the first time in his life. Elected first president of democratic South Africa by parliament. On December 14th his autobiography “Long Walk to Freedom” is published.
1996-         Divorces Winnie Mandela.
1998-         Marries Graça Simbine.
1999-         Steps down after one term as president and establishes the Nelson 
                Mandela Foundation.
2001-         Diagnosed with prostate cancer.
2003-          Mandela Rhodes Foundation was created at Rhodes House. On November 29 Mandela attend the first 46664 concert.46664 is a series of AID’s charity concerts played in honour of Nelson Mandela. First three digits 466 is Mandela’s prisoner number and last two digits 64 come from 1964, the year that he went to prison.
2004-         Retired from public life & says jokingly “Don’t call me, I’ll call you”.
2005-         His son makgatho died of Aids at age 54.
2010-         Mandela is formally presented with FIFA world cup trophy. On July 11th Mandela and Graça make a warmly acclaimed surprise appearance at the World Cup Final in Johannesburg. On October 12th his second book “Conversations With Myself” is published.
2011-         In January he admitted to hospital in Johannesburg . Where he was diagnosed with a chest infection. He is discharged after two nights. May 16 votes in the local government elections. On june 27th  his book “ Nelson Mandela” by himself is launched.
2012-2013-  Admitted and discharged from hospital 4 times in 2 years.
2013-         July 18th spends his 95th and last birthday in hospital. Discharged from hospital on 1st September.
                5th December 2013 Nelson Mandela dies at home.
